Matt bequeaths experience points and game piece to Joan Weiss (Drummer # 3), who hands them immediately to Shaw Wilson (Drummer # 4), whose Kill Creek-proof protective exterior coating leaves the boys drummerless for the third time in two weeks --- sets Lawrence record --- players lose one turn per drummer.
Brokenhearted yet again, the boys look to their past and find Ken Anderson (Drummer #5 and #8), Scott's childhood friend and drummer in Scott's early hardcore outfit. After seaching Lawrence high and low for days, they find him in the profoundly pathetic duplex known as 815 Alabama. This cesspool served Lawrence like an active culture / petri dish for drummers, cultivating anywhere from two to four at a time. Kill Creek would eventually troll for drummers there several times, and successfully(?) wind up with two actual members and a roadie --- anyone managing to escape the clutches of 815 Alabama moves ahead 7 spaces.
Band plays show on coldest night of the year in Lawrence; all members wear stocking caps and long underwear (the kind with the poop flap) except Pat who then feels left out. Thus, he lets his pants fall to the floor so that he can feel like one of the boys --- audience goes back a shitload of spaces. Band meets E.J. Rose who drunkenly tries to convince the band that he is a hot-shot engineer from Los Angeles. Band doesn't believe him --- players lose one turn each. E.J. believes himself --- loses 20 credibility points.
Band decides to again record with the less and less crack-free J.P. Jackson (not his real name). Sessions begin beautifully, and ambitious band ignores the shifty characters starting to frequent the studio. J.P. (fictitious moniker) spends less and less time in the studio with them, because he keeps having to run "errands". J.P. (made-up name) defaults on rent and is forced to relocate in his less and less wife's house. Band starts to smell something fishy even though the haze frequenting the area is odorless. Band decides to call the lush from L.A. --- everyone moves ahead many spaces except J.P. (alias), who spaces for many moves. J.P. (not his real name) allows Ed to take the helm as the equipment slowly disappears from the studio to "pay bills". Band's first full-length tape is released: Cthonic. Title is Scott's idea --- Scott loses turn.
