SCOTT SCOUTS "URBAN ASSAULT VEHICLE"; ET TU, PUNK ROCK?
It was late summer in 1986 and Scott's horrific hardcore / speedmetal band had just broken up. Being 14 years old, John (drummer #1) quickly realized that they needed a new band if they hoped to ever date again, so together they sought someone to lend talent to the predominantly image-intensive project. Tales of the virtuosity of Olathe's "Humble Ron" Hayes were spreading like the swine flu, so they set out to recruit the nascent legend. They drove to some suburban house party in their friend Jason's Rabbit, and witnessed the fine glory of "Urban Assault Vehicle", featuring Ron, Pat, Olathe North's pride and joy, Jay Norton, and Pat's 12-year-old kid brother who had to be bribed with hamburgers to drum. Ron knew how to do many things with one finger, but Pat and Danny sucked and were disinvited. Ron and Scott were both 16 and had known love and loss, so Scott immediately connected with UAV's lyrical tales of Sasquatch, the Yeti, the Loch Ness Monster, and running over monkeys at the zoo. Ron was straight-edge, and Scott definitely wasn't. Ron had always thought Scott was an asshole.
